Ingredients
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 2 1/4 cups brown sugar
- 3 eggs
- 2 3/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup walnuts, toasted and coarsely chopped
- 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Sea salt
Preheat oven to 350. Toast walnuts on a baking sheet until fragrant, about 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally. In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and oil together. Mix in the brown sugar until fully incorporated and then let this mixture cool completely. Mix in the eggs, flour, baking powder and salt until completely incorporated (the batter will be quite thick). Then, fold in the nuts, chocolate chips and vanilla extract. Spread the batter onto a greased baking pan and bake 16-18 minutes. Let cool before cutting. Yields: about two dozen squares.
